I feel especially privileged when I can put Smoke Works money directly towards the immediate needs of an individual. Over the last year I've been in touch with an SSP participant in Boston whose had legal trouble and landed in corrections.
Corrections. What a stupid way to refer to the jail and prison system.
Anyhow, Smoke Works has been able to put a few dollars on his canteen, allowing for some snacks and entertainment (apparently Gilligan's Island is available in some cells at $1.99 an episode).
I hadn't kept track but we've probably been able to put about $125 on his accounts and that's entirely from pipe sales. Now that's mutual aid.
